Microsoft Certified Professional

Overview

Organizations’ relentless drive to reduce the complexity of network infrastructure and drive down costs are making it paramount that IT delivers new value back to the business with the least amount of investment and effort. This service provides a rigorous process that helps ensure your network is designed and developed to get maximum business value from your investment. This is the first step in the larger Microsoft Portfolio for Windows Server 2003, a comprehensive service delivering Microsoft best practices and implementation guidance that will efficiently lead you through design and testing, into deployment and long-term operations.

This service covers the following main areas:

  • Requirements
We begin with a review of your business requirements and the vision and scope of the project. Framing the vision and scope early in the process focuses the project, creating more valuable results with less risk.
  • Existing Environment
Next, our consulting team captures key data points about your existing environment so that the design accommodates your needs. Our team reviews your current administrative model, infrastructure design and configuration, and the current capacity of the infrastructure.
  • Active Directory and Namespace Design
We begin design from a logical perspective, taking your business drivers into account then cover forest structure, DNS namespace, LDAP support, ADMT 2.0, AD/AM, OU structure, delegation of administration, and GPO.
  • Physical Topology and Network Infrastructure
We discuss implementation details, including Active Directory replication, sites, WINS implementation and DHCP implementation, services, master roles, sizing, and file and print services.
  • Windows Server 2003 and the Web
We review new features such as Windows Server 2003 Web Edition, virtual server partitioning, WebDAV and application development considerations, Microsoft Windows Media® Services 9, Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003, and security.
  • Planning to Manage the Environment
Last, we help you begin to build your new management and operations procedures by discussing backup and restore, server management, patch management, DSI, and support options. We also introduce the Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF). Complementing this service are SMP Jumpstart for Terminal Services, Windows NT® 4.0 Migration, and NetWare Migration, which can help you build your migration plan.

Risk Assessment

Risk assessment is a central element of a SMP Jumpstart and is incorporated into all activities. Early identification of these risks is vital so that they can be addressed quickly, before they jeopardize your ability to complete your project on time and on budget.

Deliverable

Interactive design sessions, in which your team learns how to apply Microsoft best practices to your environment, are a key benefit of a SMP Jumpstart. Understanding how the decisions were made is critical to your ability to implement the recommendations. You will receive a detailed written report that includes information gathered, decisions made, and a summary of the next steps needed to successfully deploy Active Directory and Windows 2003.

Consulting Team

Jumpstart consulting offerings are delivered by Microsoft Services consultants working together with our Microsoft Certified Partners. This gives you Microsoft best practices combined with a third-party perspective.
